In their first offering of new music since the acclaimed Stateless, Australian group Tangents return with Stents + Arteries, a three track EP that anticipates the release of New Bodies, their forthcoming new album on Temporary Residence Ltd. Building upon the electronic arrangements that made Stateless one of the great experimental surprises of 2016, Tangents have found the sweet spot between that album’s tightly constructed sonics and the free-form improvisations of their debut, I, to finally capture their mesmerizing live dynamic on record. In a 20-minute journey that builds forward motion and pulls heart strings at its most pensive moments, Tangents take their signature concoction of jazz-inflected melodicism, junglist rhythms, and post-punk attack into new and exciting places.
