Let's be honest here: the Books were one of our favorite groups. Ever. Aside from being one of the most genuinely innovative musical artists of this still-young century, they were also masters of the homespun video collage, a perfect accompaniment to their beautiful, bent, brilliant songs. Originally only available as part of the awe-striking A Dot In Time. box set, Freedom From Expression is now available for purchase as a stand-alone DVD. It includes every video ever made by the Books, archived in chronological order, and including several previously unreleased music videos and other ephemera. It's a sight to behold, and a perfectly surreal way to spend a quiet, weird night at home with some of your closest friends and family. We highly recommend viewing during Thanksgiving dinner.

Since releasing the jaw-dropping The Disintegration Loops super deluxe box set last year, we've received countless pleas for a "version of the box without the vinyl." We hear you, and we are here for you! Available now for pre-order is a version of the box set that includes the 5 remastered albums on CD, one full-length DVD, and the stunning 148-page full-color perfectbound book chronicling the final hour of daylight on 9/11/01 – including liner notes and foreword by Antony, Basinski, David Tibet, and more. This is everything that came in the original vinyl version last year, only more compact. The set is housed in a sturdy full-color satin-matte library-style box, and will soon be inducted into the National September 11 Memorial Museum. This is quite literally a piece of history. The entire set has been superbly remastered from the original recordings, and includes the live orchestral performances from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the 54th Venice Music Biennale. Pinback have premiered a brilliant new video for "Sediment," the closing track from their acclaimed new album, Information Retrieved. Filmed and directed by longtime fan Michael Johnson, the short film unravels huge portions of the mysterious narrative thread that runs through Information Retrieved.

Explosions In The Sky & David Wingo’s stirring soundtrack for David Gordon Green’s meditative new film, Prince Avalanche, was released last week. To accompany its release, a beautiful panoramic mural was painted on a wall across from McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Temporary Residence Ltd. founder Jeremy deVine documented the painting of Esteban Rey’s signature artwork. The film documents the 3-day painting process from color mixing to final brush strokes, and features the painters wearing the same iconic overalls and hard hats worn by Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch in the film (and listening to the same vintage boom box). The short film is scored by soundtrack’s closing song, the standout “Send Off”.
